Here is a refreshing tropical smoothie recipe that will have you dreaming about relaxing on a beach in Mexico under a palm tree.
It’s a blend of juicy mandarin oranges, pineapple, and banana. Perfect for that summer day when you need a pick-me-up snack, or a quick breakfast.
This drink is delicious but let me tell you what makes it so healthy. It’s the kefir. What? You’ve never heard of Kefir?
It’s similar to yogurt in that it contains beneficial bacteria, but kefir can actually colonize the intestinal tract with the good bacteria which yogurt cannot do. It also contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and enzymes.
If you want to know more about kefir, you can check it out here.
Tweaking Your Smoothie
This recipe can be adjusted to satisfy your taste.
For example, if you like a thin type smoothie make the recipe as is. If you would like to thicken it up a bit, freeze the banana (without the peel) before using and add a bit more ice. You could also add a second banana.
How sweet do you like your smoothies? I try to cut down on sugar so I make mine with unsweetened yogurt or kefir and let the fruit provide the sugar. But if this recipe is not sweet enough for you here is what you can do. Try adding a tsp. or more of honey, or use vanilla or other flavored yogurt or kefir.
